Project Cafe Confirmed for 2012 Release!

April 25, 2011

Nintendo just confirmed that their new console will be released in 2012 along with the name Project Cafe confirmed! It will also be playable at E3! There is a whole bunch of rumors to go along with the confirmation and name, but if you want to see those, go to Wii2blog.com (thanks Mariofan634!) and WiiHDrumors.com. Here I’ll just cover the confirmations.

Project Cafe was reported to be the consoles project name awhile back, but now on Nintendo Dev site Wario World there is a way to pull up this banner. Check out the links here, here, and here to get a better understanding of what it means. Then of course the link had to be pulled, but this is probably just someone covering up their mistake of releasing stuff to early. There was also this other image which was posted on Wario World 10 days before the rumors started. Is it me, or does that look like a bunny in the coffee?

The press release confirming a 2012 release doesn’t mention the name Project Cafe, but it does confirm a lot of cool stuff. Here it is.

Nintendo Co. Ltd. has decided to launch in 2012  a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011.

We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held  June 7-9, 2011 in Los Angeles.

Sales of the new system have not been included in the financial forecasts announced today for the fiscal term ending March 2012.

Iwata commented saying that it won’t come before april. He also talked about how their sales are down 66% percent. A little scary, and I hope they pull up in time for Project Cafe.

So check out the links and while you wait for the Nintendo investor meeting tonight at midnight WST.

3DS Version of Flipnote Studio in the Works

April 23, 2011

Makes me so happy to hear! I was getting worried when Nintendo hadn’t mentioned Flipnote for awhile. If they add more features this could be one of the most awesome things to happen to the 3DS. I have not got a 3DS yet (waiting for good games), but a new version of Flipnote would make me instantly cough up the $250.

Super Mario 3DS Coming this Year

April 22, 2011

The following comments come from Shigeru Miyamoto…

“It’s a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64. It won’t convey the message if I talk to you today, but if you play it at E3 that will give you more understanding of what I’m talking about.”

On how the 3D effect will have an impact on gameplay…

“For example, the floors floating in space: in 2D it’s difficult to judge the distance, but in 3D it’s really easy.”

On the tail in the logo…

“The tail you mentioned on the logo — it’s what you think it is. You probably know what’s going to happen using that character.”

“completely original, and coming this year.”

Nintendo's Newest Console

April 19, 2011

Nintendo rumors have been going crazy the past few days with the unofficial spontaneous unveiling of Project Cafe (or Wii HD or Wii 2, depending on the rumor you trust most). Nintendo’s newest home console is currently shaped from a pile of rumors from a plethora of trust worthy sources. I am not going to go into full detail here, but you can go to WiiHDRumors.com to see every rumor and every bit of info we have so far.

So far we’ve heard rumors of HD graphics (which is kind of a no brainer), a 6-inch touch screen on the remote, streaming content from the internet, people saying its as or more powerful than a Xbox 360, motion controls, an official unveiling of the console on the 26th at a Nintendo investor meeting (if not there, we’ll surely see it at E3), and everything from a holiday season of this year to a holiday season of next year release date.

Info (real or fake, I’m not sure) has been rumored and announced on IGN, Game Informer, Nintendo Life, 01net, and more. Also the Wii’s taking another price cut ($170 now at most major retailers with a rumored price cut to $150 next month) which adds a new level to all the fun.

I’ll be following along closely from now until launch and I can’t wait to see what Nintendo has up their sleeve.

World of Goo iPod/iPhone Coming Thursday

April 12, 2011

It’s official, World of Goo for iPhone will launch this Thursday, April 14! It will be priced at $2.99, but will be on sale for $0.99 for the first 24 hours after release.

At the same time, they will release an update for World of Goo HD ($4.99), which will make it a Universal App. That means, if you’ve already bought the iPad version, you’ll already own the iPhone/iPod version.

World of Goo requires an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 or 3rd generation iPod Touch or newer.

It is truly one of the most fun games I’ve ever played (I have it on WiiWare for $15 and I’ve played it on iPad) and I will be getting my goo portable as soon as possible.

Cut the Rope Magic Box Update

April 8, 2011

Good news, fans of the delightful, physics-based iOS puzzler Cut the Rope! (Or, rather, bad news, if you had things you needed to do today.) An update is now available to the ZeptoLab-developed hit which adds 25 new levels as part of the “Magic Box,” and also adds three new Game Center achievements. The new gameplay mechanic this time around is top hats, which serve as portals for your tethered confections — much like the stockings featured in Cut the Rope: Holiday Gift.

To celebrate the new levels, Chillingo has constructed two massive playable demo stations featuring nine touch screens a piece. If you’ve got business at Los Angeles’ Hollywood & Highland Center or Atlanta International Airport, keep an eye out for these big, beautiful displays — it’s likely to be the most satisfying rope-cutting you ever do.
